Kosovan Journalist Nebi Qena Takes Leadership Role at Associated Press in the USA
Well-known Kosovar journalist, Nebi Qena, has been appointed Deputy Director for Video in the United States at the global news agency, Associated Press. In a letter to the staff, the Director of News for the USA, Josh Hoffner, praised Qena’s work.
“He has excelled in every role he has held — many of them under extremely challenging conditions: he was a senior producer for Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank; weekend manager for the USA; correspondent and producer in Kosovo; and he has had several engagements in Ukraine during the 2014 conflict and more recently during the war there. Recently, he served as a temporary deputy in the USA, leading coverage of several major events, such as the wildfires in Los Angeles and terrorist attacks in New Orleans. He had an immediate and lasting impact, and we are excited for him to take on this new challenge,” he wrote.
Qena started his career as a young journalist at “Koha Ditore,” where he reported during the Kosovo war. After the war, he worked for several years at Radio Television of Kosovo before joining Associated Press, where he has served in several leadership roles, including in Europe, Jerusalem, and is now based in Washington, DC, USA.
