The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) strongly condemns the serious threats directed at journalists from the online media outlets Nacionale and Betimi për Drejtësi at the Gjilan Basic Court, Viti branch.

Journalist Eriola Cacaj and cameraman Drilon Namani from Nacionale, as well as journalist Flamur Kabashi from Betimi për Drejtësi, were threatened inside the courtroom at the conclusion of a hearing related to a property dispute.

According to the journalists’ testimony, the threat was made by a member of one of the families involved in the dispute, who made a throat-slitting (beheading) gesture toward them—an act widely understood as a serious death threat.

The journalists immediately informed the presiding judge and reported the incident to the Kosovo Police.

AJK expresses deep concern over this grave threat and calls on the courts and the Kosovo Police to ensure the safety of journalists while they carry out their professional duties. Threats against journalists represent a direct attack on press freedom and the public’s right to be informed.

AJK urges the Kosovo Police to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the incident and calls on the judiciary to properly address this case of intimidation.
