Information Regarding the “Journalists in Residence” Program
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK), the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), and the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), in cooperation with the Governments of Kosovo and Germany, are implementing the “Journalists in Residence” program, through which journalists from Ukraine and Afghanistan have been hosted in Kosovo since April 2022.
The project is funded by the Governments of Kosovo and Germany and supported by the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
All AGK operational expenses related to the implementation of the project are fully covered by the German Federal Foreign Office. Meanwhile, all costs related to the stay of journalists from Ukraine and Afghanistan — including monthly financial support, housing rent, and child-related expenses — are fully covered by the Government of Kosovo through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This information has been made public through dozens of AGK announcements.
So far, 25 journalists from Ukraine and Afghanistan have benefited from the program, 10 of whom continue to live and work in Kosovo.
The “Journalists in Residence” program, funded by the governments of Kosovo and Germany, is a unique initiative globally and one that Kosovo can take pride in as a state and society.
We call on the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) to ensure that programs supporting journalists fleeing war zones are not misused for electoral campaigning purposes.
