Milaim Zeka, member of Parliament of Kosovo stated publicly that two journalists, Parim Olluri and Vehbi Kajtazi are Serbian secret agents that work in Kosovo to humiliate and denigrate Albanian national figures. Zeka, former journalist, continued in his Facebook status, that journalists are taking instructions from Serbia’s Secret Intelligence to spread untruths about Kosovo politicians.

Journalist Parim Olluri was attacked by three unknown persons late night of Wednesday, August 16th, 2017, while he was going home with his wife. She lost conscience from the shock of the attack. Both received medical treatment at Pristina hospital.

On 10.07.2017, around 12:15, KTV received a telephone call from the suspect who did not presented the identity but complained about the story related to property dispute within the family. The story was aired in KTV few days ago. The suspect aimed to scare the journalist by saying: “if the journalist deals again with the issue, tell him he is jeopardizing his head.”

Journalist of daily newspaper Koha Ditore, Salie Gajtani-Osmankaq was threatened verbally by a group of men while she was trying to report. Journalist went to a location to see herself as how some residents in a Pristina neighborhood were preparing to leave apartments for which the state considers them as usurpators. Daily newspaper Kosova Sot reported the case to police due to portal’s name usage by a suspect during election campaign held in June in Kosovo. The suspect used almost similar name to complaining portal who used to spread fake news against several political parties, and in favor to one political party.

Berat Buzhala, director of online news website, Gazeta Express received death threat via Facebook. He reported the case to the police. The suspect is arrested.

Journalist Jon Ahmeti was hit by a stone in the head while covering a football match in Podujevo stadium. Ahmeti and other journalists were in the middle of stone exchange between two football team fans. Stones could easily go through the place where cameramen and journalists stand in the stadium of Podujevo.

Arbana Xharra, editor-in-chief of Zeri newspaper reported to police about two crosses drawn on the entrance of her apartment and another one at her garage. This threat supposedly is related to her work in which she reports about Islamic radicalization and extremism. Xharra receives many sporadic death threats through social media related to her work.

The suspect damaged the personal vehicle of the journalist. Police and prosecution intervened. The suspect was held on 48 hour detention on remand.

Fatmir Lama received a threatening telephone call from an individual, known for police, related to a documentary in which the perpetrator was not satisfied about it. Lama received death threats if the documentary would be replayed.

Editor-in-chief of daily newspaper Zeri, Arbana Xharra received death threat through facebook by Ebu Duxhane who posted a photo of a beheaded man related to Syria war. Duxhane also wrote “You should know that we can find you” and “We know how much you love your children”. Police is investigating the case.

Association of Journalists of Kosovo is concerned on a Facebook post by general director of Radiotelevision of Kosovo, Mentor Shala attacking the Independent Union of RTK. AJK considers that the used language by Shala present an offence and threat against the employees of public broadcaster, including our members that work in this media. The Association of Journalists of Kosovo opposes the lynching campaign of political partu Self-determination against the general director of RTK, Mentor Shala and editor-in-chief, Ridvan Berisha. Unfortunately, this political party that aims to come to power, for months already is lynching publicly the heads of RTK. We expected that Self-determination will reflect after several mistakes that it did in the recent months by accusing, lynching or threatening the journalists.

Journalist of Kohavision, Xhemajl Rexha, was insulted and accused by Kosovo’s ambassador to Italy, Alma Lama who posted in her Facebook profile reactions against a story related to her appointment as ambassador.

Senada Halimi who used to work for daily newspaper Zëri told AJK that she was fired from her job just few days after the management understood about her pregnancy.

AJK reacted towards the decision of RTK management to lower the position of editor Arsim Halili, to five grades lower. This move came after Halili posted a sarcastic sentence in his Facebook account related to the delay of visa liberalization for Kosovo.

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo is concerned about the information provided by colleague from Radio television of Kosovo, Ridvan Berisha who said he is feeling insecure from the recent lynchings coming from political party Self-determination.

Association of Journalists of Kosovo was informed that Dibran Istrefi, journalist of television Klan Kosova was arrested during his working time. The journalist was arrested despite holding the accreditation in visible place. Istrefi was following a protest in Pristina. He was later released.
