Emir Hazai a journalist from Tetovo – Macedonia, has publicly called for the massacre of journalists on the Charlie Hebdo portal PERISKOPI and INDEKSONLINE, which took place in France years ago. The owner of the media where journalist Emir Hamzai worked, according to AJK sources, has initiated legal proceedings against him.

The phone of journalist Saranda Ramaj was confiscated without the court's order by the Kosovo Police. Ramaj was stopped by the police while she was reporting on the court procedures against “People’s Eye”. The confiscation of job equipment is a hard abuse of the Law on the Protection of Journalism Sources – specifically by the articles 4, 5 and 6, as well as the article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Journalist Shkumbin Kajtazi recevied threatening telephone call from Mitrovica Mayor, Agim Bahtiri. The threat came as a result of an article journalist Kajtazi wrote about an employment of a young girl in the position of the chief of staff at Bahtiri’s office.

Journalist Valon Rashiti told AJK that he was attacked on Tuesday evening by a citizen while he was covering a story. Around 7pm, journalist from television T7, Valon Rashiti was in the premises of University Clinical Centre of Kosovo covering a story about the injury of two persons that occurred in Pristina on Tuesday afternoon, and was attacked by family members of one of the victims and was hit in the head.

Dardane Neziri was in the court covering a trial, when a man approached her and said that she should save her fingers because she might need them.

The vehicle of Serbeze Haxhiaj, journalist of Radio Kosovo was damaged two times in a short period of time. The vehicle was sprayed on two sides, first time on March 7th, followed on March 29th.

Photo-reporter Blerim Uka was attacked in North Mitrovica by unknown group of people while he was working there. Uka was hit with sticks and received light injuries. His equipment were destroyed. The attack came as a result of a tension in North Mitrovica which rose after Kosovo Police arrested Marko Djuric, an official from Serbian government. Association of Journalists of Kosovo condemned the threat from a security member of the Kosovo Assembly towards journalists Lumturie Blakaj while she was covering the ThSQursday’s session. Blakaj said that she was verbally threatened by the security member while she was consulting an MP. Some other journalists witnessed the incident.

A Kosovo’s Assembly security guard forcibly removed a journalist from the building claiming that the journalist had an expired accreditation. The journalist told the security guard that no one from media has yet received 2018 accreditations from the Assembly.

Journalist Parim Olluri has been a target of lynching campaigns that denigrate him in several pages of Facebook. The language used against Olluri has to do with his articles and investigative reporting. Fan page “Albanian Real Facts” called Olluri a Serbian spy and aims to denigrate Albanian heroes. The website of the talk show in Serbian languague “Slobodno srpski” was hacked four times within a short period of time. Association of Journalists of Kosovo strongly condemns the intimidation caused to the family of journalist Saranda Ramaj by a public official. Investigative Journalist and Chief Editor of Insajderi.com, Vehbi Kajtazi, was physically assaulted by an identified suspect while he was getting out of cafe ‘Lounge’ on Friday afternoon in city centre, October 13th 2017, Kajtazi has received several punches causing light injuries and scratches and had to receive treatment at the Emergency Center in Pristina.

Editor-in-chief of “Insajderi.com” Vehbi Kajtazi informed the Association of Journalists of Kosovo to have received a death threat. Kajtazi said that he was threatened by MP Beke Berisha that, according to journalist, went to a restaurant which is owned by Kajtazi’s friend and sent the message: “Tell your friend that if he mentions my name again in newspaper, bullet in the head awaits you”.

Milaim Zeka, member of Parliament of Kosovo stated publicly that two journalists, Parim Olluri and Vehbi Kajtazi are Serbian secret agents that work in Kosovo to humiliate and denigrate Albanian national figures. Zeka, former journalist, continued in his Facebook status, that journalists are taking instructions from Serbia’s Secret Intelligence to spread untruths about Kosovo politicians.

Journalist Parim Olluri was attacked by three unknown persons late night of Wednesday, August 16th, 2017, while he was going home with his wife. She lost conscience from the shock of the attack. Both received medical treatment at Pristina hospital.

On 10.07.2017, around 12:15, KTV received a telephone call from the suspect who did not presented the identity but complained about the story related to property dispute within the family. Journalist Jon Ahmeti was hit by a stone in the head while covering a football match in Podujevo stadium. Ahmeti and other journalists were in the middle of stone exchange between two football team fans. Stones could easily go through the place where cameramen and journalists stand in the stadium of Podujevo.

Arbana Xharra, editor-in-chief of Zeri newspaper reported to police about two crosses drawn on the entrance of her apartment and another one at her garage. This threat supposedly is related to her work in which she reports about Islamic radicalization and extremism. Xharra receives many sporadic death threats through social media related to her work.

The suspect damaged the personal vehicle of the journalist. Police and prosecution intervened. The suspect was held on 48 hour detention on remand.

Fatmir Lama received a threatening telephone call from an individual, known for police, related to a documentary in which the perpetrator was not satisfied about it. Lama received death threats if the documentary would be replayed.

Editor-in-chief of daily newspaper Zeri, Arbana Xharra received death threat through facebook by Ebu Duxhane who posted a photo of a beheaded man related to Syria war. Duxhane also wrote “You should know that we can find you” and “We know how much you love your children”. Police is investigating the case.

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo opposes the lynching campaign of political partu Self-determination against the general director of RTK, Mentor Shala and editor-in-chief, Ridvan Berisha. Unfortunately, this political party that aims to come to power, for months already is lynching publicly the heads of RTK. We expected that Self-determination will reflect after several mistakes that it did in the recent months by accusing, lynching or threatening the journalists.

Journalist of Kohavision, Xhemajl Rexha, was insulted and accused by Kosovo’s ambassador to Italy, Alma Lama who posted in her Facebook profile reactions against a story related to her appointment as ambassador.

Senada Halimi who used to work for daily newspaper Zëri told AJK that she was fired from her job just few days after the management understood about her pregnancy.

AJK reacted towards the decision of RTK management to lower the position of editor Arsim Halili, to five grades lower. This move came after Halili posted a sarcastic sentence in his Facebook account related to the delay of visa liberalization for Kosovo.

Association of Journalists of Kosovo was informed that Dibran Istrefi, journalist of television Klan Kosova was arrested during his working time. The journalist was arrested despite holding the accreditation in visible place. Istrefi was following a protest in Pristina. He was later released.

Association of Journalists of Kosovo condemned the bomb attack that targeted the home of Mentor Shala, general director general of Radio television of Kosovo. The attack occurred during the high political tensions in the country in which the public broadcaster was criticized for taking pro-government side. Fortunately, no one was hurt due to this attack.

The public broadcaster, Radio television of Kosovo was attacked by a hand grenade. Two attacks against the public broadcaster marked this year as the most violent cases against media and journalists. Owner of “Ambienti-G” Company, Gani Mlinaku has threatened through telephone editor Zekirja Shabani and journalist Gentiana Hasani of portal Gazeta Fjala. Mlinaku asked Shabani to remove the article related to his company or otherwise he will settle things physically.

On 23.12.2015 Brahim Thaqi a journalist of TherandaPost portal was not allowed by the Mayor of Suhareka, Sali Asllanaj to attend the end of year media conference organized by the municipality. Mayor Asllanaj, through his spokesperson did not allow the journalist to attend the press conference but neither have access to the municipal building, because he did not reflect the real work of the municipality in his articles.

On 14.03.2015 Vehbi Kajtazi, an investigative journalist of Koha Ditore newspaper, said that he was directly threatened by members of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (Eulex) over his reports that senior mission officials were suspected of corruption.

AJK was informed that editor-in-chief of daily ‘Bota Sot”, Idriz Morina was threatened with his life by Kosovo Member of Parliament, Nuredin Lushtaku. According to Morina, he was threatened and insulted through telephone after publication of an article.

The local company “Devolli” carried an insulting campaign against journalist of Gazeta Express, Berat Buzhala after he published several articles related to above mentioned company. Journalist Aleksandra Jovanoviv and cameraman Bojan Kosanin, both working for public broadcaster, RTK2 were physically assaulted by a group of persons during the coverage of protest.

Zekirja Shabani, editor at daily newspaper “Tribuna” was physically assaulted by the owner of the newspaper, Sejdi Demiri. Shabani was assaulted after he refused to sign the resignation letter offered by the newspaper leaders, in opposition to his valid contract and against Labour Law.

The most serious case is considered to be the case of the attempted murder against Milot Hasimja, journalist of Klan Kosova television who was attacked by a member of the public with a knife within his workplace in response to a new story where the attacker was reported upon.

Artan Haraqija, journalist of Indeksonline portal received death threats by text message after his appearance in “Rubikon” show of Kohavision television. Haraqija is known for his investigation about Islamic radicalism and extremism in Kosovo. This is not the first time Haraqija is threatened.

On September 11, 2014 Liridon Llapashtica was threatened from individuals presented as Kosovo police officers. Llapashtica while returning home from work, around 6:30pm, in Sali Nivica street, in Sunny Hill neighborhood, was stopped by two persons who were insulting and threatening him related to his journalistic work. Registration plates are known to police.

The AJK condemns threats against journalist Visar Duriqi of portal Gazeta Express. AJK announced for dozens of death threats, including threats of beheading by different people, because of his articles. Duriqi reported the case to police. Cameraman of news agency Kosovapress, Kushtrim Gashi was covering an action of demolishing a building that Muje Rugova, former rector of University of Pristina has built it illegally. Rugova threatened the journalist and the cameraman Kushtrim Gashi physically attacked and pushed Gashi down the stairs of the building.
